MIND'S EYE NEWSLETTER

Welcome Everyone To Mind's Eye!
HealingMother.jpg

I have some interesting topics to share with you.  I have picked the subject of healing to be the theme for the newsletter.   Healing! What a wonderful word. To heal or not heal, that would be awful not to have it. To heal is, heal itself (sounds pretty good). Heal, Heal, Heal, Where art thou Heal. (Ok may be not).
In this newsletter, I will share with you an interview I had with a massage therapist in the article "The Healer".  In the interview, the Healer will share her thoughts and techniques of being a massage practitioner.

I will also share with you some comments and reccommendations on music that can soothe the heart in the article "Choice of Healing Music"

I hope you enjoy this newsletter for the summer.  It was truly enjoyable putting this together for you to read at your leisure.

May Blessings Be Upon You Always

Healing Music
A Recommended Choice

I want to recommend Loreena Mckennitt's CDs as a good form of healing music. Even though her music is not categorized as New Age, nor does Loreena describe it as such, the music does have great calming abilities.  Loreena's vocals and phenomenal musicians together build a celtic-eclectic sound that can sooth the raging waters and the toughest of storms.  I visit Loreena's message board, from time to time to read what a lot of her fans talk about.  One in particular, is what her music has done for them in their lives. I posted a message to ask some members if they would share their stories and if they wouldn't mind if I included them in my article.  I was granted the go ahead. Here is what the result of it was. One dear woman, from Washington DC, shared that her sister-in-law, who suffered an aneurysm and was in the hospital for 2 weeks after brain surgery, had two Loreena McKennitt's cds played for her "Elemental" and "An Ancient Muse".  And the result of this was?  "Loreena soothed her discomfort and stress," said the woman. "It didn't matter what song, all of them helped her recover. Even the nurses commented on Loreena's songs. I am eternally grateful to Loreena and her music for helping her feel at peace, rested, and made the sterile hospital more of a beautiful place. She has made a full recovery and has started her own Loreena collection now." The woman also mentioned that as a Reiki Master, she used a variety of Loreena's music. "I use only her music when I heal." Another fan from the Midwest, shared which of Loreena's music was a good aid for healing. "Penelope's song and Dante's Prayer have a special soothing to my inner side. But in all sincerity, most of this artist's music has had an effect. If you need a song that will help in the healing process, this artist is the place to look." One other fan from Denmark, shared her thoughts on the matter of healing and her choice of Loreena's music. "I think, for something to have a healing effect you need to be in a period of your life where you are able to receive. I mean the healing won't help you, unless you can take it.  Depending on which mood I'm in, the McKennitt songs healing for me...Full Circle, The Two Trees and Greensleeves.  If you are interested in finding out more on Loreena's music, go to www.quinlandroad.com.

I want to extend a big thank you to fan members of Loreena McKennitt, for whose names I withheld, just for privacy purposes.  Thank you for your kind participation on this! It was most enlightening!

The Healer

Falling apart everywhere from the stress of working beyond breaking point? Stretched to the limit without enough sleep that maybe the 7 to 8 hours may offer?

Is your mind drifting away at meetings or classes, off into the netherworld?  Yes. We have all been there.  We have come to understand that knots suddenly not only a ward to describe what cotton string can produce, but what your muscles choose to form when constant burdens of lifting and carrying heavy loads are set upon it.  And that could be anything from lifting objects, past or current injuries and finally too much on the mind and heart.  How do you begin to unwind those knots that bind?  Those knots that have stiffen our shoulders and everywhere else. There is a solution to this straining situation.  A solution that can remedy that stitch in the back, the crick in the neck, the out of sorts feeling you possibly get when you get up in the morning or when you come home from a hard days work; A solution to help the body and mind to regenerate.  That solution is to seek a healer.  I have! They are commonly known as massage therapists.  These trained practitioners help the body to heal naturally.  It's almost like  seeing your doctor only no shots!

We are going to speak with a healer, Genevieve Quinones.  I call Genevieve a healer because she uses various techniques to reduce the tensions and tight muscles that are due to a great amount of stress on the body. In my hours of creating, I sometimes work at my desk, but other times I work on the floor of my living room, where my posture may be a bit compromised.  As Genevieve will ask "how are you today".   I guiltily say "it's those darn shoulders again".  Long behold it's not my shoulders' fault. It's how I treat them. But I digress.  The techniques that Genevieve uses ranges from Swedish massage to Rieki (a technique that uses the body's energies for healing) In a moment we will hear from Genevieve about those techniques she incorporates in her work.  One other thing that I would like to mention is that she is very sensitive to a client's disposition.  And with that she frames her massage work around the client to develop an appropriate treatment.
So with all this said, I want to share with you an interview with the healer, Genevieve.

Lizjul: In terms of your work as a massage therapist, how would you describe healing?

Genevieve: Healing is the body's own ability to repair itself. Massage helps the healing process in different ways. It stimulates blood and lymph circulation which brings the necessary oxygen and nutrients to areas that need them. It relaxes the receiver, who in turn learns to de-stress and bring balance between relaxation and stressful situations.

Lizjul: What specific techniques do you incorporate in your work that are more for healing purposes?

Genevieve: To me, any massage is healing or therapeutic. By the shear fact that it brings relaxation, I learned Swedish and oriental techniques like any other licensed massage therapist in NY. I like to incorporate very gentle stretches and some energy work.

Lizjul:
When did you decide that you wanted to going into Massage Therapy?

Genevieve: I decided to become a massage therapist 14 years ago. I've always been interested in how the body works. I went to physical therapy school back in Belgium but soon realized that it was not for me. So when I came to NY and found out that there were really great schools for massage it seemed like the right thing to do.

Lizjul
: What would you describe as your technique?

Genevieve: Every therapist interprets what they've learned in school in their own way. I would say my massages are not just relaxing in fact they can be quite intense (depending on what the goal of a particular session is) and are aimed at relieving muscle spasms and contractures. I try and customize each massage according to my client's goals for that session. I usually use a combination a techniques ranging from regular, straight Swedish technique to acupressure points, trigger points, stretches and energy work. Any one massage can include all of these or 1 or 2 of these techniques.

Lizjul: Do you want to expand your work, and if so what would it be?

Genevieve: That's a good question. I feel as though I'm always learning while working. My work is different now then when I just started or even then 1 year ago. So, in a way it keeps on expanding. I would like to learn the Thai massage which includes a lot of stretches.

Lizjul: What do you want for All Your Clients To Walk away with?

Genevieve: I would like for each client to come out of a massage and realize that they are an active part of the massage (although it doesn't always look like it). They are in control of their own relaxation. They can either relax or let go or not. The massage therapist is just a facilitator

GoddessofAnisopter.jpg
This doll was custom made for a customer, who wanted to give a gift to a friend, who was suffering from an ailment and was seeking treatment. The customer was seeking a gift that would give hope. I gave her the idea of a goddess and using a harp for calming, but using the goddess theme as the vision of strength and hope. On her gown, I accidently painted a dragon fly and hoped to goodness that it had a great meaning to it. So I looked up Dragonfly, and found that according to the American Indians, that it is a symbol that one with many obstacles to faced would see better times ahead.

MY HEAD UPON THE WOOD
webassets/LizsHarpfronthalf.jpg"M y Head Against The Wood"

A true moment in time, sets the motion free
The needs of the heart and well being takes lead
The stresses of my mind will soar and will fad
For I finished the tasks of my work today

It's been a long week for me as it was the last
Needing to rest my weary head
And to break away from my past

To knock away my grievances that, go on and on and on
I funnel out some notes and engage upon a new song
To draw back a feeling of where I once stood
To bring upon happiness from a spot against the wood

It is upon a path I start to sing
With a gentle song, a little ring
Where from those sounds I drape my velvet hood
To bring upon happiness from a spot against the wood

What is this wood you say in mock reference?
Is it a broken frame, or shatter tree made in remembrance?
It is not, I shout of which that have fouled my mood
It is an instrument, of where I lay my head against the wood

Strumming the strings of this wood upon my cheek
Oh what great purpose thou have
In soothing troubled waters that have lingered so deep
Rush my pretensions, leave them all behind
Give them a fond memory, and allow the present to shine

This instrument with sounds that flow
From my heart to the ethers of my incredulous soul
Gives light for the happiness I need, where this is as it should
Rest my weariness and longing tarries
As I lay my head upon the wood

So troubles I say, this is the end of your path
'Til you come back again, either hour or aftermath

But if your arrival comes again just prepare for the greeting
The greeting from my heart is won of where I stood
There's no greater place on earth but the place of
My head against the wood

MY HEAD UPON THE WOOD
webassets/LizsHarpfronthalf.jpg
There has been a big source of inspiration to my doll work.  Do you wonder what it could be? Are you staring at the picture with the harp in it? Oh, that's cheating.  Ah well you were bound to find out sooner or later. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, I have become a big fan of the harp. I think I have always appreciated the instrument and the image it gives. Big golden harp played in a courtyard surrounded by Ionic and webassets/EgyptionMetropolitanMuseum2.jpgCorinthian columns, of which grapevines have wrapped themselves around. A Parthenon is standing prominent in the distance. A lute player is struming to accompany the harp player. Skies are a deep blue, with thick clouds dispersed. Then evening comes, and the sky is a midnight blue, with stars shining like diamonds on a black velvet lining.  There is a crowd of people listening to the sounds that fill up the night. Sounds that are both hypnotic and mesmerizing. There is a singer leading the small band of night music players. The crowd of people hum and begin to sway side by side. I think I see a few candles or is that lighters? What an image the harp can bring. But what sound it brings too. As I said, I appreciate the instrument, always had. But learning it, well it was something very far from my mind, and a definite stretch of my imagination. Well, I guess I must praise the words of aspiration "nothing is impossible." So I have decided to join the two night music players in the courtyard, with the Ionic columns surrounding the amphitheater. As I'm playing the very latest greatest hits... "Twinkle little star, Yankee Doodle and a little Country Gardens, the music and sound relaxes my limbs and quiets my mind. It is the most soothing instrument I have ever experienced. I play almost everyday, especially at night time. It relaxes me so much, that I could fall asleep right at the harp.  Course that would be something in a middle of a concert! And it was me falling asleep and not the audience! So to avoid this I will need a lute player and perhaps a percussionist or two! I enjoy playing, especially that it has added a great deal of inspiration to my creativity in terms of my dolls. Can you tell? You can find out more on my point of view of the harp through my poem "head upon the wood"  It will tug at your heart strings. No pun intended!
