THE POWER OF THE WEDDING DRESSI have to say that I had no intention of creating any
wedding dolls. Only because I felt that I would be conforming to the many trends that are happening right now. I
said with a snooty voice in mind, "I am an artist, I am unique. I shall not conform!" I didn't really say
that, but it's how I felt. Anyway, I sat down with a doll that I had to refurbish. Unfortunately the red hair of this green
eyed doll, turned green itself. So, I spoke in soft tones to the doll and said, "I will have to remove this hair
with the greenish tinged color that is not suitable for you. And so, carefully, I sheared it off with the scissors.
And down it went. The green tinged, wisps and clumps of hair fell straight into the wastepaper basket. I then gathered some
soft amber/honey hair, and worked the new tresses onto the doll's head. I wasn't really sure how it was going to come
out. But it came out wonderful, I think. She is very cute with all her little curls. THEN CAME THE DRESS The idea I had was to make her an outfit that was funky, hippy. She was to be the fifth doll in the Hippy Chicks
Collection. I had a jean doll jacket that I purchased, but that I painted with acrylic paints. With the paint it became
very stiff. But it fit her well. I wanted to create a dress, of which the jean jacket would be worn over it. Before
creating the dress, I wanted to give her a pettycoat. I gather some white tulle material and layered it into a skirt. After
I created what was suppose to be the pettycoat, I began to put the same material in her hair as a head-band. I sewed
the material into individual gatherings, which looked like flower buds. I suddenly discarded the jean jacket, and sewed a
lacy blouse that was to be attached to the skirt. I also worked some of the lace in with the headpiece. As I stepped
back, she looked like a flower girl...at a wedding. Uh. So right
now, I am going to make some different color flowers, crochet a soft basket made from satin fabric instead of yarn (just to
stay with the delicateness of it all) and that will complete her. At present she is wearing white patent leather shoes, with
bobby socks. And well as the magic of artistry happened, it seemed that I was intended to make a wedding theme doll. Wow.
Once I finish the doll, I will gladly share a picture of her.
