Where It All Began

Lizjul Doll Designings, became a business with the foundation of a “gift shared”. “It started with a gift to my mom,” says Elizabeth de Almeida, founder of Lizjul. “My mom bought quite a few dolls for me when I was growing up. As I got older, and still collected dolls, she confessed that the main reason she gave me those dolls, was because she never had them as a child. And she wanted to make sure I did.”  That message resonated a great meaning for Elizabeth, but it wasn’t made obvious until there came a day that an unprecedented birthday gift was in order, to be given to Elizabeth’s mother. “It was a gift that had to be different; one she would not expect.  It came to me quite by accident, as I walked into a craft store. I came upon a plain vinyl doll with no clothing.  It was for those who wished to fashion the doll themselves. I purchased the doll and designed a dress, hat and shoes.” However, it was not yet proclaim to Elizabeth that this was to be the gift. But when the designing of the doll was completed, it was then that it hit her.  “I said this is it!” “This is the gift.  But as much as I loved designing the doll, it had to be given away. So I guess that’s when I had an epiphany. That this doll was to be given to my mom as a gift.” And so Elizabeth found that the joy of making dolls could be shared with someone who would love it. And one of them was her mom.  “Her reaction was unforgettable. I vowed that I would continue to offer the same joy to others who love dolls.”
